TWIN-LOOP at IEEE VPPC 2026: European SDV Initiatives Driving Energy Efficiency in Electric Vehicles

TWIN-LOOP contributes to a joint scientific paper highlighting the role of Software-Defined Vehicles, Digital Twins and European research collaboration in improving electric vehicle energy efficiency.

TWIN-LOOP was represented at the IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC 2026), held from 5 to 9 October 2026 in Lyon, France, through a joint scientific contribution presented during the special session on Software Defined Electrified Vehicles.

The paper, entitled “European SDV Initiatives as Innovation Vector to improve Energy Efficiency of Electric Vehicles”, was co-authored by researchers from several European organisations, including Sara Garcia and Stefano Persi from Mosaic Factor, coordinator of the TWIN-LOOP project. The paper was presented by the coordinator of TWIN-LOOP’s sister project, CODE4EV.

The contribution examines how four European research initiatives — CODE4EV, TWIN-LOOP, Shift2SDV and AI4SDV — address complementary challenges in the development of Software-Defined Electric Vehicles, demonstrating how collaborative innovation can support improved energy efficiency, vehicle performance and industrial competitiveness.

Within this framework, TWIN-LOOP’s contribution focuses on vehicle-specific MyEV Digital Twins and the TwinOps methodology, which enable continuous optimisation throughout the vehicle lifecycle. By combining in-vehicle and cloud-based Digital Twin components, operational data and intelligent applications, TWIN-LOOP aims to improve battery management, thermal optimisation and energy consumption forecasting while supporting the continuous evolution of vehicle software.

The paper also highlights the complementary roles of the four initiatives: CODE4EV addresses collaborative development and vehicle-level optimisation, Shift2SDV develops interoperable middleware and software interfaces, and AI4SDV focuses on AI-assisted engineering automation.

TWIN-LOOP’s participation in VPPC 2026 represents another important contribution to European collaboration on Software-Defined Vehicles, strengthening synergies between research projects and promoting a shared vision of more efficient, adaptable and sustainable electric vehicles.
